I stream my music to my PS3 and now the WMP 12 has been improved quite a bit over earlier version I would like to use it. However I can't for the life of me find the right codecs to install? Many say they will work but then DON'T once installed. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks, RA As far as I am aware, there is only one codec that will let WMP play Apple Lossless, and that is the one I devised and was written by Milenko Mitrovic, as per the January 8th 2007 entry on While I have a copy of Windows7, I have not yet installed it, and therefore not yet tried WMP12. However I have not heard of any reports saying it does not work in Windows7.

Aiff Files Windows Media Player

Greetings, Is there any way to create a 24 bit AIF file that will play in Windows Media Player. Windows Media Player is supposed to play AIFF files. Windows media. Hi, I am trying to play some AIFF files in windows media player. I get the following error mesage ' Windows media player cannot play file. The player might not.

I have had reports of it working in Vista and WMP11. You can download the codec from Milenko's website listed above. Information here might also be helpful.

You may need to give the batch file that registers the DLL admin privileges. Note: This codec also plays AAC files, if you have another codec installed that plays AAC files which have the same.m4a file extension as ALAC (Apple Lossless) then you need to either remove the AAC only codec, or set the ALAC one to have the highest priority. Note: As I recall Windows7 now supports AAC as standard, this obviously means it has a built-in AAC codec and this might be taking precedence over the ALAC one. Prince Of Tennis Gba Rom. I have used DirectShow Filter Manager in the past to adjust the priorities. Not having yet upgraded to Windows7, I have no idea if it will work with that. Apr 19, 2010 7:29 AM.

You can use Graphedit to test which codec plays a file. See for a link that should include Graphedit for Windows 7. With Vista not having built-in AAC (i.e..m4a) support there was no such issue previously. One other issue I now remember.

Some Apple Lossless files created by programs other than iTunes failed to play using the Milenko codec. I have had zero problems with files produced using iTunes.

You can always use iTunes to convert files from WAV, AIFF, or a bad Apple Lossless file to a new good Apple Lossless file. Apr 20, 2010 3:00 AM. John, First off.
