Use this software from Ross-Tech He has a free version and a paid version. I used the free version, but i think if i buy another VW soon I'll pop for the paid version. Get an OBD2 Vag-Com from somewhere. I got mine off EBay from here: Download the driver for your vag-com device.

Next install your software, make sure to install the driver for the VAG-COM first then plug in the device when you are instructed to. After you have installed your driver, install the Ross-Tech software. Restart your computer.

Not really necessary, but i usually do when I install new software. I'm running Windows 7 on a 64 bit machine. It works fine on it so far. You might also make sure you have a laptop machine, I can't imagine dragging my desktop out to the garage to hook up the car each time i want to read a fault. Now that you are set up, take your laptop and cable out to the car. Plug your cable into the car and USB connection to your computer. Fire up Ross-Tech and go to the configuration screen.

Select options Select Port 3 Then Select Test Once that is done the program will test the port to the vehicles diagnostics port to ensure it is working. A message will pop to tell you whether or not it is working. Once its working close that screen, and return to the main screen of the program. Next you have a variety of options: you can do a complete scan of the vehicle (Auto Scan), Module by Module scan (Select Module), OBDII Codes.

I choose to go with a Module Scan. I wanted to check out the SRS system, ABS system and Comfort and Convenience. It'll tell you the specific problem.

You can then store it or clear the codes. If I was you, I'd remove the link to the pirated VAG-COM as soon as possible.

It's against forum rules.VCDS-Lite is not pirated. It's provided by Ross-Tech. Downloadable, and supported, by the Ross-Tech site. Dumb OBDII cables to use with Ross-Tech VCDS-Lite are not pirated. Ross-Tech doesn't sell them, so you pretty much have to get one from some other supplier.

Ross-Tech does manufacture and sell their special cable, which has a hardware registration ID that unlocks use of the full featured software from Ross-Tech. If somebody were to buy a 3rd party, cloned, copy of the official Ross-Tech hardware keylocked cable. Then that's the piracy. Ummm, maybe the piracy police should read and understand whats going on before snapping to judgement. Get a clue and learn to read. I think i learned most of that in the 1st grade. My kids went to school in Wyoming, so they were taught at an earlier age.

I didn't pirate anything, it all came from manufactures and there is no need to pirate anything. I wouldn't have a clue on how to do that in the first place anyway. Anyway, i found another cool thing on the ross-tech.com site. They have a virtual VCDS Tour. Shows you how to use the software. I so wish someone had this set up for my Range Rover.

The BECM is so hard to get into. I needs me some smarter friends. In this day and age its real easy to get pirated copies of anything. Just think how easy it is to jailbreak iPhones or root an Android phone. As such, pirated versions of 409.1 are available on the usual pirate sites.

This is what Akhristov might have thought you posted. The younger generation hates stringent restrictions and gimmicks, as in, this will only work fully if you buy this other overpriced thing, etc. You know what I mean. Anyhoo, businesses that are still being run using older models will need to adapt to this new reality and create a model to generate revenue while being more inclusive rather than restrictive. Otherwise, people will always find loopholes in their s/w. EDIT: i posted and then saw Akhristov's post above. Again, Akhristov, there are no links to dongles above, just dumb cables. Cnb Cms Software on this page.

I think I gave you a little more credit than I should have. But guys, please let's all keep it civil.

If i keep this wagon, i intend on buying the full version of the software. Ross-tech even says it allows the user to use other cables. I have no idea if its pirated technology.

There are hundreds of cables out there for OBD2 stuff. I just bought from a highly rated EBay seller. It works, and i'm pleased. I do not condone piracy. All my software is legit, i haven't even jailbroken my iphone. To me stock is best. Less worries, no brickage.I realize your intent isn't to pirate anything.

It's just the way Ross-Tech cables work-the chip in the cable itself has a lot more value placed on it than the software, which is why you can download the software for free from the Ross-Tech site without any proof of ownership. So I was just pointing out that in case the cable you linked to is a 'ripped off' version of real Ross-Tech cables, it would be a safer bet not to link to it. But since the mods haven't said anything yet, my guess is it's okay. I don't think it's a 'dumb' cable if the eBay listing says it has the 'FT232RL Version Chip installed', and it says it's a Vag-Com cable, not just any OBDII cable. Just pointing it out.I offer the following to clarify the misinformation and assumptions regarding the blessed and supported use of VCDS-Lite, as provided by Ross-Tech. The cable link referenced describes exactly what a 'dumb cable' is.
